Maplewood in Southwest Portland, when joined with it’s neighbor Hayhurst, is in the area of town often referred to as the Vermont Hills. Obviously Vermont St. cuts a rug right through the two and the terrain is hilly, so the name fits. Streets aren’t always improved with sidewalks and ‘parking on the street’ just means that you pull over to as close as you can. Still, Maplewood feels cosy and welcoming—the tree’s are older and give depth to each area and the homes in some spots are nicely set back. This part of town is neutrally located, close to Multnomah Village & the I5 corridor as well as the SW back roads to Beaverton and all points west.
