Growing up in Portland, my family would take Sunday drives through Portland Heights and my sister and I would accordingly fight over which house was ‘mine’. I still have a little twinge whenever I pass by the ‘spiderweb house’ (7 year old code for ‘cool spider stainglass window’) or the ‘castle’ which was always across the street from the house on stilts that showed the martini glass in lights at Christmas time. How is that for a slice of my early years? It was those early years of driving through the West Hills where collectively, all the neighborhoods became my favorites. Portland Heights has these incredible huge gorgeous historical homes and then as you head up Vista–you’ll run into one of my favorite food spots on a rainy day–the Vista Springs Cafe. This part of town does big and traditional like almost no other & when the cherry tree’s are in blossom it’s stunning. Real estate in Portland Heights for this past year averaged 49-86 active listings each month with an absorption rate consistently under 12%. The average sales price has swung from $175k to $1.4M…..consistent with the classic apartments turned condo mixed in with homes on estate like settings.
